Dear Parents or Guardians

Dear Parents or Guardians,

On behalf of the Orientation Team, welcome, you are now a part of Laurier’s extended family!  We hope you are as proud as we are that your son or daughter has chosen to attend Wilfrid Laurier University. Entering university is an adjustment for everyone, that’s why Orientation Week at Laurier is designed to integrate our newest students into the Laurier community, allowing them to become comfortable and familiar in their new surroundings, while encouraging them to meet new friends and have fun!

The Orientation Team, a committee of 18 dedicated senior students, has been working throughout the summer to organize an Orientation Week geared towards our incoming Golden Hawks! It is a week that safely engages each incoming First Year Student in fun activities and recreational events, all planned with the main goal of assisting your son or daughter through their exciting and important transition into university life here at Wilfrid Laurier University!  While the Orientation Team does work behind the scenes in order the make the week run smoothly, the week itself is run by nearly 600 upper year student Volunteers.  These Volunteers will be with the First Year Students all week long to answer any questions that your son/daughter may have about the university and student life. They are trained to familiarize the incoming students with the locations of their classes and the numerous resources and facilities that Laurier has to offer, which will allow them to feel settled and informed before the academic year begins.

The Orientation Team encourages you, as parents/guardians, to ask any questions you may have, as it is important that you become as comfortable with the Laurier environment as we hope your son and/or daughter will soon be! We will be hosting a series of Friends and Family Information Sessions on Move-In Day (September 1st) and invite you to attend! These information sessions will provide additional information to parents/guardians about Orientation Week and your student’s transition to university. Times and locations of these sessions will be posted at registration on September 1st.

Enjoy the rest of your summer; we look forward to meeting you in September!

Sincerely,
