About Winter Carnival

What is WC?
Winter Carnival is a fun filled,
activity packed week-long event held in January which is meant to increase school spirit after students return from the Winter Holidays.

The week is open to students in all years and programs at Laurier and gives you a chance to have a good time with your friends and meet a bunch of new ones along the way!

Some of the crazy events offered (but are for sure not limited to):

  • Snow Sculpture competition
  • Cardboard and Duct Tape Toboggan races
  • Lip Syncs
  • Off-Campus Tubing trip
  • Casino Night
  • Ridiculous Scavenger Hunt
  • Off Campus Bar Night
  • and sooooo much more!

Why do WC?

Many reasons... in fact too numerous to mention.

But to put it frankly.... it’s just fun! That’s why it’s still here after 50 years!

Alex Trebek had fun at WC, just ask him! or ask Diana Ross and the Supremes!

Also, there are prizes! Winter Carnival offers teams the chance to win the following three titles: Overall Cup Champions, Spirit Cup Champions, and Activities Cup Champions and with each cup comes exciting prizes! In the past teams have gone to Raptors games, Kitchener Rangers Games, Wine Tours, Laser Quest, Team Dinners at Wilf’s or Front Row, etc. Each team will receive points through completing the events throughout the week which will work towards their overall tally.

When is WC?

Monday, January 12th through to Saturday, January 17th, 2009.

Teams can begin to register in late November.

How Can I Participate?
There are many ways to get involved in this amazing week! You can apply online and become a volunteer or you can be part of a team or you can captain your own team.

Teams consist of minimun 20 maximum 40 students who are registered at Laurier. These wonderful people can be friends from class, residence, other volunteer opportunities, friends of friends, or just random people you’ve met during your student career.

There must be 2 fearless leaders who choose to captain each team. These people will attend captains meetings leading up to the week to get all the juicy information to pass along to their teams in order to be prepared for the week. These people will also be the ones responsible for the motivation and creativity of the team throughout the week.

In order to be on a team all you have to do is find some friends, ask around, come to the info session, or email the exec to be a free agent!
