1920’s Themed Charity Auction an Overwhelming Success

Waterloo, ON, November 27, 2008 – Laurier University Charity Kouncil (L.U.C.K.) hosted their annual event, the “Charity Auction” on November 19, 2008. The theme of the event was “A 1920’s Black and White Classy Affair.”  At 7 p.m. the doors opened with an enormous amount of support from students and members of the community participating in the event.

The funds raised from this event were donated to the local YWCA Mary’s Place (Emergency Women & Children’s Shelter). Fashion ‘N Motion as well as a live band entertained the audience as they drank and ate before the bidding began. Both a Live and Silent Auction occurred with a plethora of wonderful prizes including Leaf and Raptors Tickets, a Hot Air Balloon Ride, World Junior National Hockey Tickets, two WestJet tickets - a two night hotel stay & a three day car rental, and Daddy Mac’s Trip. WestJet generously supplied a last-minute item to bid on which was two round trip tickets to anywhere WestJet flies! Many auction items went for thousands of dollars apiece, making the event a huge success, as over $12 000 was collected!

“The event was a huge success. It’s always wonderful to see support from Laurier students as well as from the community. Mary’s Place is a place L.U.C.K. really believes in and we know the money raised tonight will go to great use!” said Carolyn Leckie, a L.U.C.K general volunteer.
