Challenging You to Follow the Arrows:

BACCHUS Presents the Social Norms Campaign

WATERLOO – On Tuesday, January 22nd Laurier's Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students (BACCHUS) committee, will be hosting Social Norms Interactive Booth Day. BACCHUS is kicking off the second week of their Social Norms Marketing Campaign. The booth will be located in the concourse from 10:00am – 3:00pm.

The Social Norms Campaign is new to BACCHUS this school year, with its first week held in November. The focus of this campaign is to have students aware of the statistics of social norms expressing the perceived behaviour of students versus the real facts of students’ actual behaviour. BACCHUS is including behaviours which include alcohol, smoking and other risk-taking behaviours that apply to students. These statistics show that students perceive behaviours much higher than actual fact. The Social Norms Theory developed in the United States attempts to correct the misconceptions of drinking norms to reflect that actual facts vary from each university. This campaign is meant not only to create awareness but to have a positive impact on the student population.

“With a focus on alcohol awareness, we hope to show you the positive action students are making, and to empower you to walk and choose the road most traveled,” says BACCHUS Marketing Executive Krista Boniface.
