Internal Boosters
Peer Help Line volunteers pride themselves on keeping all aspects of the line confidential. All Internal Boosters remain anonymous until their term on the line is over. Even before an Internal Booster is hired, all applications and interviews are kept confidential in order to protect the volunteer should they be hired. If you are planning on applying as an Internal Booster it is highly recommended to keep your application confidential. If you are a first year student wanting to learn more about the line and what it means to be an Internal Booster, keeping your application confidential may be hard as you will need to ask people for advice! There is no real need to tell everyone in your residence. Talking over your decision with your Don, the Peer Help Line Coordinator, calling the line or talking to the Vice President of Student Services is ok as these particular Laurier students understand the secrecy of Peer Help Line and will be able to help keep you anonymous while helping you come to a decision of which service you would like to get involved with!
All internal boosters are trained, once they are hired, to equip them with the proper skills and confidence they will need in order to answer calls. The Peer Help Line Coordinator and Executive Team work closely with all Internal Boosters to ensure that everyone is comfortable in working the phones. Each Internal Booster will work on a two week rotation, depending on their shift requests, and will work with a partner for two hour shifts during the week or three hour shifts on the weekends.
The External Boosters
While the internal boosters are faceless, External Boosters promote the line to Laurier students thus playing an integral role in making the line a success. There are various campaigns throughout the school year as well as a trip to the Brantford Campus. This year there is one campaign in the fall term and two campaigns in the winter term. External Boosters promote the line through these three day long campaigns in the concourse to raise awareness not only for the line but also for various student issues. Being an External Booster is a fun and simple way to get involved with WLUSU while making new contacts and building new friendships.
