Laurier Students Offering Support (SOS)

Laurier SOS is a SBE accredited student association hosting ‘Exam Cram’ sessions in order to fund raise for a trip to South America with the organization ProWorld. 15-20 students will be travelling to help with the construction of development projects in less fortunate villages.

 

The Link

The Link is an accredited SBE student association dedicated to connecting the past, present and future students within the Laurier community.

They will be hosting their Annual Leadership in Business Conference bringing high school student delegates to learn about the fundamentals and practices of business leadership.

 

’Operation Wallacea’

Seven Laurier students are going on trips to either Honduras, Indonesia, South Africa, and Egypt to conduct fieldwork and to see and aid in information gathering and conservation efforts first hand.

 

Jonathan Krohn

Jon will be volunteering for two weeks at The Durika Biological Reservation in Costa Rica’s Talamanca Mountain Range. He will be working with the reservation and within the community to learn how co-operative sustainable communities might be employed as a solution to a range of ecological and social issues.

 

Brian Pichna

Brian will be participating in an organized trip called Journey South, where he will be immersed into the life and work of the people who live in a self-sustaining eco-community situated in the cloud-forest of the Talamanca mountains.

 

’Global Citizenship Conference’

An academic conference for 500 university students designed to provoke thought and discussion while establishing networks amongst students. It is three days of speakers, workshops, panel discussions and interactive seminars all pertaining to the notion of ‘who and what is/makes a global citizen’. Tiffany Naven and Amanda Deschenes

Tiffany and Amanda, along with two other Laurier students, will be attending the Canadian Universities Queer Services conference in Winninpeg on behalf of the Laurier Rainbow Centre. Upon return they will be conducting an educational campaign based on what they’ve learned.
